LC semi-final 2nd leg.V Stoke city
penalty, Hurst v Banks a place at Wembley at stake.
Banks tips over the bar Hursts pen.
To this day I can never bear to watch it if it shown. A bit like the Gerrard last minute equalizer.

Ray Stewart smashed his penalties but in the cup final slotted it instead

Banke - England Goalie
Hurst - England Centre Forward.
Trained and played together for England for 6 years.
Banks always had the advantage and he used it extremely well

Best goalie against the greatest striker of the ball.

How the fuck did he save that, well apart from being the best goalie on the planet at that time!

Add in the fact Bobby Moore advised him to go for a young Roy MacFarland but he bought Allan Stevenson who was probably a worse buy than Ferguson.

No wonder Moore wanted out and Peters left.

My understanding was that Greenwood had shaken hands on buying Ferguson then Banks became available and he refused to go back on his word.

Our future might have been so much different.

For more money too
Set a world record fee for that lemon

Fortunately, the second time we did that it worked out a bargain

The ironic thing is Greenwood had the chance to buy Banks but had a brain fade and bought Bobby Ferguson instead.

That was on my 17th birthday and to this day still my most miserable birthday ever. Also went to the 2nd replay at OT always hated Terry Conroy after that.
I hope my 67th birthday has a happier ending tonight.

My god is it 50 years.
Was in the west bank that night Hurst hammered it no idea how Banks saved that.
Went to all the replays after ending up at Old Trafford with Sir Bobby Moore in goal.
What a choker that ended up.

I was here with my Aunt and Uncle standing in the west stand. I was almost level with the penalty box and could not believe the save Banks made. One week earlier Hurst had gone the same way in the first leg and Banks almost got there. Broke my 14 year old heart.

First match I went to without my Dad.

Didn't see the Banks save, as everybody round me jumped up, expecting to see the net ripple.

Seen a clip of it once. Don't care to see it again.
